talking it out

a tale of sweaty circumstance and survival

After

This book isn’t about what men do—or don’t do.

It’s about stereotypes about men.

You know, those subconscious (or straightforward as hell) cultural cues that tell us what we should think about and expect from certain
people before we ever meet them.

It’s a critical difference.

Talking about stereotypes isn’t about proving which sex is smarter, stronger, more violent, or commits more crimes. It’s not about
figuring out if it’s women doing it to men doing it to women, nor is it about lambasting the media. It’s definitely not about going back to a
time when we didn’t talk about the very bad things that happen at the hands of way too many men.

Certainly it’s not news that every “fact-based” stereotype imaginable has its roots in long-ago story. Over the centuries of telling, some
observed “fact” was transformed into a small kernel of generally held truth. Once that shift to “truth” was complete, whether or not the
belief reflected reality became irrelevant. It just was.

Such is the power of story. Find a good one. Tell it.
